I've told the story of Jason Wilson before but here it is again. One of the craziest strokes of luck that led to that amazing Padres team of a couple decades ago.
When I inherited the Padres they had virtually no minor league system. Literally. Not just no talent but all of the minor league teams averaged like 12 players on each. So the first thing I did was signed well over 100 young free agents to minor league contracts. Contact and Power potential only took me so far. I was sorting the list on all kinds of things. The ONLY thing Wilson had going for him was a strong arm. Suddenly, two seasons later. Boom! he explodes from 1 star potential to 4. Then two seasons later he is a virtually fully developed 5 star stud. The season after that he is the Padres every day catcher and gives us 3 strait seasons with WAR over 8. After that he was obviously going to be way too expensive for the small market team. We got a pretty good haul from the Yankees for him. SP Ed Crow had a nice run with us. We scored a first round draft pick. And oh yeah, one other thing. Arturo Rivera.

Hey John, I'm lazy. Can we get a summary (minus relievers) of how the current draft class stacks up on your metric?
