1. What are the most significant off season moves you were were able to accomplish and what impact do you hope they have?
The off-season was a quiet one. We signed contract extensions with 12 players to avoid arbitration. We let four players walk, which enabled us to trim some payroll and replace the players lost with younger players. Our scout discovered four good looking, young prospects, two from the Dominican Republic and two from Mexico. Last, we sign a Rule 5 pitcher who, as it turns out, did not make the cut in spring training and will be returned to Houston.
Although some roles have changed, we will begin the new season with essentially the same roster. One rookie, RF Donald Barnes, made the team. He will replace RF Ed Duran.
We made our big off-season moves last year. Sometimes the best move is to stand pat. We expect to build on our experience and drive deep into the playoffs.
2. How are your finances looking? What's the plan?
Our finances are in great shape. Our operation generated a profit in 27 of the last 30 years and the losses were not substantial. While doing so, we were able to meet or exceed 3,000,000 in attendance most years playing in two ballparks with capacity limited to about 43,000. The consistently good product and performance enabled our Giants following to develop into a huge market with an extremely loyal fan base and fan interest at a fever pitch. Giants fans are excited.
The plan is to reward them with a World Series championship, the one goal we have not yet been able to accomplish.
3. What team statistic, rating or aspect do you expect to fluctuate the most from 2069 to 2070? Why?
We expect to improve our run differential. Our offense should be able to score more runs while our solid pitching staff should surrender fewer runs. The improvement should translate into more wins.
4. Who is the best player on your team? Is he also your favorite?
RF Denis Gustafson exploded last season being named to his first all-star team and being honored as the NL Most Valuable Player. We look for him to continue producing at a high level for many years.
Since the departure of 3B Alfonso Salgado in early 2067, I have not settled on a replacement favorite player.
5. What is your take on owner goals? Do you enjoy them? Do you think they have an impact?
I don't pay much attention to owner goals. Sometimes, given the state of a rebuilding or competing process, they don't make sense. So, I essentially ignore them and let the chips fall where they may. I haven't noticed a negative impact.
6. What is your 2070 PBL World Series prediction?
The Giants will beat the Tigers in seven games.
I might as well pick my guys to win. Doing so may help us achieve our goal.
