agreed trade blocks should always be on forums..
for what it's worth it's possible to set up a feed from the forum to Slack so that everything posted on the forum also show up in a separate Slack channel.

We use Slack in my other league. I'm a big fan. I am in the other league Ron is in. I, too, am a big fan.. Slack is an awesome tool! In total, In that league, GMs post literally thousands of public & private comments per week. A GM may learn a great deal by following impromptu discussions about the inner-workings of OOTP, strategy, etc. I know I have. The live sim feature is a tremendous addition to the league. During playoffs, the Commish of the other league runs the sims slowly enough that GMs may follow all games as they are played with many GMs commenting in one of the channels as the games are played. Games played on the East Coast kick off the action and games played on the West Coast begin three hours later - just like in real life. The other league maintains a message board as an alternative primarily devoted to sim schedule announcements, league voting announcements, etc., but this information also is posted to Slack. Slack is where the action is. I could go on. The bottom line for me is that Slack will add much to our PBL community.

Nothing posted here makes me think that Slack will not kill this forum.
I don't mind it as a subsidiary tool but I echo others' issues in terms of keeping up. In ABL I have no idea what's going on when I check Slack, it's overwhelming---(granted I'm currently twiddling thumbs in that league).
I'll find a way to adapt I'm sure. I just don't buy that this board, which is easy to follow and where you can't really get lost behind 1000 messages, is going to survive this change. It seems the consensus is to just move everything over there though, so I'll have to get used to it.
But if there pops up a discussion on Slack about using ratings by league level, fair warning, I'll flood the shit out of it with so many messages that even those who actually know how to navigate the thing get confused and flustered!

The sad truth is communication is down on the PBL boards. There is no writing anymore, the pace of the league is quick to keep things moving to sustain the loss of this. When I started the PBL, it was a little slower pace 3-4 sims per week and writing was essential, we ran promotions, challenges, etc.
The day of that has long been lost and even many sim threads have less than 12 responses per night and 3 of them are from me giving sim notice, saying time to sim then file is up.
Activity isn't rampant, the league thrives on the fact it is almost every day. We can't be afraid of change. I will say this, in the ABL I look at the forums at the trade block THEN I message a team on slack about a deal and I had 4 teams talking trades or getting a feel of a potential deal in less than 20 minutes. PM someone and wait could be hours, etc. Slack has a place, even in an older league like this in its golden age.
I care about the PBL more than anyone. But we are so hesitant to make changes yet the PBL has gone through many changes over the years.

Just for clarity sake too, I cannot stress enough the three reasons I want slack in the PBL:
1) To shoot the shit, about anything. PBL, OOTP, Sports, Life, just keep activity going. Consider it a way better shoutbox that people advocated for on the bottom of our forum.
2) To allow teams to watch the sims live!
3) When you want to talk trades, you can reach out via direct message and work trades quicker than PMs. Almost in real time.
That is it!
No big announcements, etc.
