1) Extensions. Has the game evolved to the point that we can lift restrictions and just let the game handle them? Are the rules in place appropriate and comprehensive? Just set a time on when players can be signed to multi-year extension.. ie after 5 years of Major league service time. Big fan of this Anthony! Waaaait... We agree on something financial related? Did I make a typo somewhere?

Heres the rules I have set up. They can be altered to fit PBL but I have found that they work well...
All contracts will be restricted to 7 years. This applies to Free Agency and Extensions.
A player may be signed to a 1 year extension at anytime. This includes Minor League Contract extensions.
Players must have a minimum of 4 years Service Time to be given a contract extensions of 2 years or greater. This is "Major League Service Time."
Free Agents may be signed to any deal (up to 7 years in length) regardless of ML service time.
Contracts that include team option years must have a buyout for any team option year of at least 25% of the highest year of the contract offer.
No Option (Vesting, Team, or Player) may have a dollar value figure higher than the highest guaranteed year.
Contracts that include vesting options must be realistic. Hitters can be offered a maximum of 500 AB's or double their previous season's amount, whichever is lower, starting pitchers can be offered a maximum of 180 IP or double their previous season's amount, whichever is lower.
Incentives cannot total more than 25% of the lowest season's guaranteed salary.
These are taken, paraphrasing as i removed penalties from my 2 leagues.
The option year rule is key to avoid teams structuring ridiculous contracts like 5-5-15(option) and in my opinion (maybe slightly biased) are easy and simple enough to follow.
I review them each sim to verify all contracts are legal regarding structure and if the player was eligible to sign said extension and i can show someone the easiest way to do that, whether thats Derek or someone else. The only problem is team option buyouts and incentives do not show until the extension kicks in.
Side note, I have length rules on contracts. 6 in one league and 7 in another. This is mostly to protect the league and team from someone signing a guy to a 10 year deal and bolting.

I was against #4 but really liked that option once I tried it out. I'm all for it now.
